Don't be an asshole...

A lot of people say they don't like classical music. A lot of people say they like classical music, but really they're just lying to seem sophisticated. A lot of people say they like classical music, but really they only know the most popular pieces, and probably don't know who even composed it.

I like classical music. I play classical music. I know classical music. And I accept the responsibility to educe people on such wonderful stuff.

Again, a lot of people who don't like classical music think it's boring and stupid. I say they're boring and stupid. I listen to classical music, and Iron maiden, and Lady Gaga. You don't have to like just one type of music. There's so much out there, why limit yourself? Luckily, most people can figure out they're music on their own. But Classical is ALWAYS overlooked. So here I am to educate you ( Don't watch all of them all the way through, you'll be here for days.). When people think of classical music, they think of something like this:

It's romantic, quiet, slow, and kind of boring. I don't listen to this kind of classical music.

Another problem is that when people think of classical music they think of this:

Now don't get me wrong, it's a GREAT and beautiful piece. But it's about as overplayed as Journeys 'Don't stop believin'' I love this piece, and I do listen to it on occasion, but come on. We all know this one.

Again, another problem is that some people know the piece, but only the most famous part of it....

One of my absolute favorites. It's well known, and amazing and beautiful.
And ANOTHER problem is that people are so closed minded they say "I like metal, I could never like classical." Which is the stupidest thing I've ever heard anyone say in my entire life. That's like saying. "I like french fries, I could never like ketchup."  They go together like the most beautiful thing in the entire world. A LOT of classical sounds like (Jump to 2:50 ) :

It can be kind of dark, and intense, and melodramatic, and catchy as all fuck. So when people say "Those types of music are never combined." I respond with:

Which is the song my story 'A new kind of love' was based off of. Before anybody says (or thinks) that that wasn't your favorite, or that it was only one story. I would say about 80% of my stories are based off of or around either TSO songs or Classical music. The other 20% is video games FYI...hehe.

So for my conclusion, all I have to say is that for EVERY genre of music, there's a classical counterpart to it. If you like country, there's a bunch of sad sad songs for violin. If you like up beat stuff, try the flute. If you like a little bit of everything, Organ, Piano, and Orchestras are right for you. If you don't know what you like, message me and I'll be happy to get you hooked on the most unappreciated musical genre of all time.

P.S. The way I think about classical is that, a song with lyrics makes you think about certain things, or has a certain vibe to it. When it's just you and the instruments, you're allowed to feel what you want to feel. It has a way of getting directly to your soul, while other music just floats around on the surface.

  1. OMG! That was indeed educational, specially the last paragraph.
I stopped listening to music (as in ear plugs in ears all day) because I didn't want to drown in the lyrics. I tried listening to songs in other languages where I had no idea what they were saying. But now, I know what I was missing. The question is, where to look?

  2. I enjoy classical music a great deal and, oddly enough, when I'm in the car with my 22 and 26 year old sons, it's one genre we all agree on. One interesting sidenote is that Bach's Toccata, one of the darker pieces, was introduced to most people through Walt Disney's Fantasia, even though most people just remember Sorcerer's Apprentice. My favorite piece of classical is The Planets by Holst. So many different emotions expressed in one piece.

  3. NOTE ON WHERE TO LOOK:

I like Pandora, where you can set up your own station. I have a classical station set up and you never know what gem they're going to play. You can set up one for TSO as well.

  4. I love classical music. I find it quite satisfying to play a classical piece while playing first person shooters or arcade fighters. Orchestral stuff just makes me happy. One of my favorite songs would probably be "the Devil's Trill" by Tartini. A song with a story :)

  5. I love The Devil's Trill!! It is one of my all time favorites. I think the Vanessa Mae version of the song is pretty epic as well. My son happens to like the Vanessa Mae version. My sisters on the other hand give me weird looks when they come in my room and I'm gaming it up while listening to The Devil's Trill. Lol

  6. I was raised on classical music. I got out of it for awhile (my teens and 20s) because it wasn't 'cool', but I'm pretty eclectic. I listen to all sorts of music. Devil's Trill is a good one.

  7. As sad as it is, I'm not a classical fan. I wish I were and I think that everyone else should give it a shot and that if they don't they are depriving themselves. For most people, they hear the instruments and it sings to their heart and their soul. The issue with me is that has never happened for me. What instruments do for most, words do for me. I need words. They call to me above anything else. The music without the words breaks my heart. I like to think I'm a rarity though and that others have the honor of taking from instruments what I do from words. I think if you are like me and don't like classical, you still need to respect it.

  8. I always loved classical, I played it for years and can find classical elements in almost any styles. My favorite example; Death metal. For example check out Cradle of Filth's instrumental song, they have a few and man, they are something else. If you like imagery check out Camille Saint-Saens. You can actually see his music. Enjoy!

  9. Random Fact: I used to be able to play Flight of the Bumblebee on the clarinet before I got my tongue pierced. Bet you didn't know that ;)
